How do you handle wedding videographer problems?

Our wedding videographer has done great work with his clients. The downside is that he has taken so long to complete our wedding videos! My wife and I have waited for over a year for him to complete it! We have followed up with him and we had agreed on a date to finish, but still he is not done! How would you handle this? When is it time to take legal action?

I think it's time you write a letter to him stating this is his final chance to finish the video and give him a deadline to have it in your hands or else you will file a claim in small claims court. If he breaks this deadline, file the claim and go to court. There is really no need for an attorney since this is a simple breach of contract case. Plus, if you go to small claims then they are generally not allowed anyway. Also, check the contract that was signed with him / her and see how long he had according to the contract. Hopefully threatening legal action will give him that push to finally finish it. While you are at it, ask him for a discount since you have been more than patient about it and also let people know about his work. It will save future brides the trouble of working with this person. Edit: About getting a friend to pose as an attorney, that is not a good idea because if the videographer happens to look him up and find out he / she is not licensed as an attorney, the friend could be in big trouble with the law and / or State Bar
I am sure that by the time this gets through 10 other people will have said the same thing, but about 90 days and two or three reminders past the date when, according to your contract, you were supposed to have them. Take a copy of your contract and copies of your correspondence the notices you sent to him reminding him he owes you a video with you to the lawer
i would have taken action 6 months after the wedding! this is nothing to bs with. go demand that he finish it with quality by the end of the week. at the end of the week walk in with ur attorney even if its a good friend just posing as an attorney view it in his office, and take it from there. if its unsatisfactory demand ur money back. if hes not done at the end of the week, go immediately and file a civil suit at the attorney generals office. have him taken off the better business bureau's list, and take a full page ad out of the paper. also call a local news station about ur plight. no small business owner likes bad publicity. good luck!
We had a VERY similar situation with our photography and our album. I wish we had the delivery date written into the contract, and I also wish we had pursued the issue with him as soon as a year had lapsed. We are still sitting here years later without our album. I would see an attorney in your area and find out what your rights are. I know it is hard when you want to be nice, but eventually enough is enough
